THE FORT BEND SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA AND CHORUS FOCUS THE 26 TH SEASON ON OUR AMERICAN EXPERIENCE

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas – The Fort Bend Symphony and Chorus are designing the 26th season around the richness of the American experience, celebrating American composers of all ages and backgrounds. This is the Chorus’s second season, following an exuberant reception in their inaugural year. The FBSO and FBSOC are building on the success of last year’s 25 th anniversary season, where they played to near-capacity audiences.

The 2017-18 season is entitled “Of Liberty and Justice for All”. This patriotic theme will carry through each performance, showcasing the majesty and diversity of our great nation.

The first concert, “America the Beautiful”, is October 8, at 2pm in the Stafford Centre. It will feature works from American composers of many different backgrounds, including Jesse Ayer’s “Stirrin”, an inspiring new arrangement of spirituals for orchestra and chorus. The audience experience will include both familiar patriotic themes from Copland, Bernstein and Stravinsky, combined with a broad selection of new works such as Tan Dun’s “Internet Symphony” that was commissioned for Google. The FBSO Chorus is an integral part of this entertaining performance
that celebrates America, Americans and the rich diversity of our land.
Special season ticket pricing is available until the first concert. The remainder of the paid season includes:

DECK THE HALLS December 3, 2p Stafford Centre
This is the most popular concert of FBSO’s season, and patrons are encouraged to
purchase tickets early. Our program this year features Houston pianist Joseph Fuller,
with the FBSO Chorus joining the orchestra for the second half of the program. This
family-friendly program includes both secular and religious popular holiday selections.

The FBSO holiday marketplace will be set up in the lobby prior to the show and at
intermission, with gift items handcrafted by members of the orchestra. And no holiday event would be complete without a visit from Santa Claus!

ALL IN THE FAMILY February 18, 2p Stafford Centre
Thanks to a grant from the Women’s Philharmonic Advocacy, FBSO celebrates the work of musical families in the February concert. We’ll explore the work of siblings and spouses with compositions from the Schumanns, Mendelssohns and Coleridge-Taylors. Both of the Houston Music Teacher Association concerto competition winners and the FBSO concerto competition winner will perform during the program. There will be a pre-recital lecture from musicologist Alicia Levin and children’s activities during intermission.

THE PLANETS May 19, Sugar Land Auditorium; May 20, 2p Stafford Centre
FBSO concludes its 26 th season with two out of this world concerts. On Saturday, the
FBSO Chorus presents its spring concert, “Out of the Stars – Songs of Creation”. This
concert celebrates heaven, earth and everything in between. On Sunday, the FBSOC
joins the orchestra for “The Planets”, featuring the title composition by Holst and solar system footage by NASA. There will be science and space-related activities for the little ones during intermission.
