Register for Summer Sessions 2017!

It’s that time of year again! FBSO will be hosting SUMMER SESSIONS July 15 & 16, 2017. This fantastic 2-day event provides the opportunity for advanced middle school/high school aged musicians and adults to play side-by-side with members of the Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra. In partnership with the City of Sugar Land Cultural Arts Department, this reading session culminates in a free public performance at the historic Sugar Land Auditorium.

FBSO’s very own percussionist, Andrea Cope, traded in her mallets for the chance to play her flute during last year’s Summer Sessions. Andrea shared her thoughts about the opportunities Summer Sessions provides.

“As I sat on the stage for the first rehearsal, looking around at the unfamiliar faces, some nervous,  some confident, I saw my younger self in many of them. When I was in high school, I had similar opportunities and I remember every emotion, sensation and smell. Each time I played with what I considered to be “real musicians” I came closer to being one myself.

The beauty of the Summer Session was its welcoming nature. We were joined by students preparing to audition for college, students already in college (including one I’d taught in elementary school) and adults who were looking for a way to bring music back into their lives. We all came together to create beauty and magic. I’m already looking forward to next summer.” – Andrea Cope

Fort Bend ISD Orchestra Director, Sophia Hsieh, shared this unique experience with her students, playing alongside with them during Summer Sessions.  Sophia said  “Awesome concert with these Fort Bend ISD students! Ya’ll did such a great job on the difficult literature in just 2 rehearsals 😊. Thank you so much Dominique Royem and Gregory McDaniel for their leadership and musical expertise.”
